Abstract:

By analyzing the chromaticity parameters of 229 samples sampled at equal intervals from the L3 and S3 loess-paleosol strata of the Liushumao section in Hengshan area where in the southeast margin of Mu Us Sandy Land, and combining with the content of calcium carbonate and total iron oxide (TFe2O3), a comparative analysis was carried out in order to reveal the chroma characteristics of L3 and S3 loess-paleosol and its relationship with climate change. The results showed that: (1) The peaks of brightness L* and hue angle h* appeared in the aeolian sand layer (L3F, S3F), the peaks of redness a*, yellowness b* and saturation C* appeared in the paleosol layer (S3-1, S3-2), and the chromaticity parameters of the loess layer (L3-1, L3-2) were between the aeolian sand layer and the paleosol layer. (2) Brightness L* was greatly affected by redness a* and yellowness b*, but weakly affected by calcium carbonate content. The correlation between redness a* and yellowness b* is well, and showed consistent changes, and they were closely related to the content of total iron oxide. (3) The chromaticity parameters of L3-S3 layers in Liushumao section recorded that there was an extremely cold period, two colder periods and a warm period in L3 loess accumulation period, and there were two warm periods and a cold period in S3 paleosol development period.
