Abstract The authors summarized its practice and development of the deserticulture theory in Gansu Province to celebrate the 100th birthday of Qian Xue-sen, the founder of the deserticulture theory. Many explorations and applications had been conducted in Gansu province with the guide of the theory, and a rapid development had been achieved. By reviewing the applications and development of the deserticulture theory in Gansu province, we analyzed the problems in developing deserticulture, and expected the future development of the deserticulture in Gansu province. The study not only enriches the theoretical base of the deserticulture theory, but also promotes the harmonious and sustainable development of ecology, society and economy in desert area of Gansu province.
