Abstract:

In the context of the new era, the coordinated development of tourism economy, public services, and new urbanization is of great significance for promoting high-quality economic and tourism development in the western region. Based on relevant data from 2013 to 2022 in China's western region, this article employs the entropy method, coupling coordination degree model, kernel density analysis, and obstacle degree model to study the coupling and coordination interaction among tourism economy, public services, and new urbanization, as well as their influencing factors. The results show that: (1) The comprehensive development level of public services and new urbanization has shown an upward trend, with public services index increasing from 0.206 in 2013 to 0.303 in 2022, and new urbanization index increasing from 0.264 in 2013 to 0.543 in 2022. The development level of the tourism economy exhibits a trend of first increasing and then decreasing. (2) During the study period, the coupling coordination degrees of both binary systems and ternary composite systems have developed, with the tourism economy subsystem having a significant impact on the coupling of the ternary composite system. (3) The coupling coordination degrees of the three systems have undergone a process of first increasing and then decreasing, exhibiting a spatial distribution characteristic of being higher in the southeast and lower in the northwest, with significant regional internal development differences. (4) Domestic tourist arrivals, urban population density, and the number of medical and health institutions are the main obstacle factors affecting the coordinated development of the three subsystems, while inbound tourist arrivals and per capita water consumption also have a significant impact on the level of coupling coordination.

Key words: tourism economy, public services, new urbanization, coupling coordination, western China
